Dirty coils are one of the most overlooked reasons a mini split stops performing the way it should. Most homeowners never think to check them - and honestly, why would you? The unit is outside, out of sight, and it seems to be running fine. Until your energy bill creeps up and the system just can't keep up anymore.

Here's what we were working with on this Daikin mini split outdoor unit. The coil fins were packed solid with dust, dirt, and debris - so clogged that airflow through the unit was seriously restricted. When that happens, your system has to work a lot harder to move heat out of the refrigerant. That extra strain means more power consumed and more wear on the compressor over time.

We pulled the panels, got in there properly, and flushed the coils out completely. The difference between before and after is not subtle at all. What was once a dense mat of grime is now a clean, open coil that air can actually pass through freely. That's exactly what the system needs to run the way it was designed to.

This is the kind of thing a solid A/C maintenance visit takes care of. It's not glamorous work, but it directly impacts how efficiently your system cools your home and how long the equipment lasts. Skipping it year after year is a good way to end up with a repair bill - or a full replacement - way sooner than you should.

Mini split systems like this Daikin are great units when they're taken care of. Regular coil cleaning is a big part of that. It's a straightforward service that pays for itself in lower operating costs and fewer breakdowns down the road.
